Kufri is famous for its trekking and hiking trails. Kufri is a tiny hill station located 19-kms from Shimla on the National Highway No.22. The region around Shimla including Kufri was once a part of the Kingdom of Nepal. This region remained obscure from the rest of the world until the British 'discovered' it in 1819. The British made Shimla their summer capital in 1864 and it remained so until 1939. As Shimla gained importance, Kufri also began to be recognized as an important place to visit near Shimla.

Day 4: Shimla – Manali enroute visiting Kullu by surface
(260 kms)

After breakfast drive Manali enroute visiting Kullu.

The most charming and beautiful Kulu valley spreads out its charm on either side of river Beas. The valley runs north to south of this river and is 80kms. long and about 2kms. at its broadest. Yet with awe inspiring glens and mossy meadows encircled by the rushing streams and meandering brooks, flung east & west, a fairly wide area is open to the tourists, the trekkers, the mountaineers, the artists and to anyone who wishes to escape the heat & dust of the plains to breathe the exhilarating air of the Himalaya and enjoy the spectacle of the variegated mountain scenery. The valley is also famous for its exquisitely woven colourful hand made shawls and kullu caps.

On arrival check-in at the hotel.

Manali according to legend was born when the waters of the Great Deluge receded and the seventh Manu’s ark came to the rest on a hillside in this valley. As the earth dried up there came up a place of breathtaking beauty which was named after the great sags. Over the last decade Manali has grown from a back of the beyond Himanchali town to a busy tourist destination. Surrounded by towering peaks at arms length, Manali’s major asset is its proximity to the snowline, never more than a few hours drive from the town nestling at a comfortable 2,050 meters.

Rohtang Pass is the highest point, 4,112m, on the Manali-Keylong road, 51-km from Manali town. It provides a wide panoramic view of mountains rising far above clouds, which is a sight truly breath-taking. It offers only limited skiing opportunities, but trekking possibilities are immense.

The pass is open from June to September, although trekkers can cross the pass from May. Beyond Rohtang pass lies the remote and, perhaps, the stark and haunting landscape of predominantly Buddhist areas. The comparative inaccessibility of the place has helped preserve the pristine culture of the people of the region.
